Newly opened Ybalon Resort

The Ibalon resort is newly opened resort in San Juan Iriga City. It was one of the properties owned by the Reyes family along with the Ibalon hotel and the adjacent Emerald Commercial Complex. Both the hotel and the resort had its heyday in the 80s catering to the upper market until its decline and finally put into recievership of DBP. The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), who took over these properties decided to auction these properties into a single lot. However, the auction did not materialise compelling DBP to sell the properties separately.

Ibalon has a good reputation in the past which significantly catered the upper market and also indicates a quality service provider. However, it was decided by the new owner, to change the name from Letter 'I' to 'Y' as Ibalon actually originates from the word 'Ybalon' from the phrase 'in the well' which is similar to the corrupted word Iriga coming from the phrase commonly used by the inhabitants from the low-lying municipality of Nabua as 'there in the land' as 'raga' means land. By keeping its name, it is found as an advantage in recapturing the positive image it exude in the past and therefore the resort could be easily marketed. The owner of the resort is currently formulating a master development plan in order to capture the development of the whole area and whereby achieving a holistic approach in the development of the site. Therefore, this will avoid the 'hit and miss' approach.
